young woman during a training session with a personal trainer

This is a question I get asked a lot, after all everyone can work out on their own, right? Surely hiring a personal trainer isn’t going to make much of a difference, is it? Well actually it can. There’s nothing like a good workout session to boost your mood and make you feel good, and whilst you can workout on your own a good personal trainer will help you get more from the time you spend exercising. Personal Training is an invaluable investment in your health and well-being – everyone can benefit. Here’s five good reasons why you should call me today.

Information and fresh new ideas.

There is a vast array of information out there about health, fitness and nutrition, so much so that it is virtually impossible for the average person to know everything that is most important for them. This is where a personal trainer comes in.  Your Personal Trainer already has a good understanding of health, nutrition and fitness, and it is their job to understand the best way for you to get from where you are currently to where you want to be. They will use their knowledge to develop a programme for you which you can incorporate into your lifestyle and which is designed to help you take steps towards your goal.  But a good personal trainer will also continue to educate themselves, staying up to date with new research and trends and ensuring their clients are armed with the safest and most accurate information available – they will introduce you to new exercises and techniques, and provide you with the tips and tricks to help you develop a healthy lifestyle.

Routine and goal setting.

Maybe you have a specific target you want to reach? Running that charity 5K, training for your first triathlon, or getting back into your favourite jeans (!!) are all goals your trainer can help you achieve. But even if your goal is less ambitious and you simply want to be able to walk upstairs without getting out of breath, a good personal trainer will build a program for you & work with you to develop a routine that not only increases your level of fitness and builds your strength, but is also realistic for your lifestyle. A trainer will work with you to figure out what works well for you and what doesn’t – after all, you are much more likely to stick to a programme that fits in and works well with the rest of your lifestyle.

Accountability and motivation.

A good Personal Trainer will hold you accountable for your workout and make you “own” your exercise regime.  You have paid for their time and knowledge, so they will want to know you are getting the most out of your time with them. It’s also a lot easier to put off that training session if you are working out alone, so having an appointment to meet someone to work out with will always mean you’re less likely to put it off until tomorrow. Your personal trainer will push you just that little bit harder than you would push yourself, and get that extra set out of you when you wouldn’t necessarily do so on your own. They can’t do the exercises for you, but they will motivate you to do more than you thought you could.

Technique and form.

Something that’s often over-looked is that it can be very easy to hurt yourself whilst working out, and so having someone knowledgeable watching you exercise is invaluable. For the hour you are with your personal trainer you have their undivided attention. They will teach you how to use the equipment correctly and make sure you are exercising safely and with good technique and form. This will not only help you get the maximum benefit from the time you spend with them, but also make it safer for you when you are working out on your own. Your trainer will work with you to prevent injuries both in the gym and during everyday life, helping to improve your balance, and increase both your core strength and flexibility.

Results.

Everyones goals are different, so it is your trainers job to identify what your goals are and help you realise them. Above all your Personal Trainer should be making your sessions enjoyable. Sure they will be hard, that is after all what your paying your Personal Trainer for.  There will be times when you feel like you are done and you can’t carry on, but at the end of the hour your body will be so jam packed full of feel good endorphins you will feel energised, positive and be looking forward to your next workout. There is no doubt that a good personal trainer will allow you to achieve results you cannot achieve on your own.
